Do I need a service upgrade to add an EV charger, heat pump, or sauna?
Not automatically. It depends on your existing electrical system, the loads already in your home, and what you're planning to add.
We assess your home's available capacity first and then walk you through your options, which may include using the existing service, load management, or upgrading the electrical service.
Do I need an electrical permit, and how long does the process take?
Many electrical upgrades require a permit. Vanguard handles the required electrical permitting for the work we perform so you don't have to navigate the process yourself.
Electrical permit processing times can vary by jurisdiction but typically fall within 5-10 business days.
What happens if my electrical service doesn't have enough capacity?
A service upgrade isn't always the only option. Depending on the project, load management may allow certain new electrical loads to be added without increasing the size of the existing service.
If additional capacity is needed, we'll walk you through the available options and help determine what makes sense for your home.

We start by understanding what you're planning to add and any future upgrades you're considering. From there, we assess your existing electrical system's capacity and identify the practical options for getting where you want to go.
